McMinnville Wine Classic brings out some showstoppers

"this was my third time judging this competition, and as much as I hate to spit out good wine, I always discover a few new wineries. This year's notable discoveries include Flourishing Palm Cellars, Salem, Meravigliso Winery, Nerberg and Giovingo Vineyards in Carlton.

WHY THE NAME?
There are few things in life that give me more pleasure than a really good wine and being in a palm garden environment.
A number of years back, my family and I lived for two years in Puerto Rico, where I fell in love with beautifully manicured palm trees in garden like settings. My best friend while in Puerto Rico possessed the largest private palm collection in the entire Caribbean. His palms, which numbered in the hundreds, were exquisite. My friend was well studied on each of his types and knew the needs of each of the palm varietals. In his care of the palms, he always stressed why it was essential to make sure each palm had the exact environment that would make that palm flourish. He ensured the appropriate amount of pruning and manicuring, sunlight, macro and micro nutrients, moisture, temperature, humidity and even worms/insects. In the end, due to his attention to the detail, his gardens were heavenly, beautiful and peace inspiring.
A flourishing palm and a great wine have a lot in common. Just like in my friends gardens, at Flourishing Palm Cellars, we strive to provide a purposed environment that is conducive to “great grapes becoming great wine”. While this is a journey for me, From start to finish I strive to be purposeful to ensure every analyte of the wine is understood and optimized so that the wine will naturally flourish.
